Caps Introduce Theodore, Re-Sign Fehr

Don't be fooled by the warm weather, it's still hockey season. The Caps were busy today, holding an event to introduce new goalie Jose Theodore and announcing that Eric Fehr (as expected) signed his qualifying offer.

Theodore is very personable and the consensus is that he'll fit in well with the Caps. He's also impressed with what he's seen so far, including the Caps' meeting with the Avs last season.

"[The Caps are] really fast and skilled," he told STC today. "I remember we lost 2-1 that game, but after two periods, [it seemed like] they had 30 shots. They were just coming really hard and it's an exciting team to watch. And to even play against was exciting."

In the game, the Caps actually had 14 shots through two periods, but clearly their intensity was evident. Theodore also is happy to return back east, where he's played most of his career.

"I'm really excited. First thing, there is less travel, which is good," he said today. "But I'm more excited about the team. Like I said, this team is really an exciting team to watch and now it's going to be an exciting team to play for."

Theodore, who is friends with former Cap Cristobal Huet, also took an interest in the Caps-Flyers playoff series. And he knows that he'll be able to help the Caps when they eventually return to the postseason.

"Every time you get that extra game in the playoffs, it's just experience you learn," he said today. "And I've been in maybe four or five series now and maybe more than that, so I kinda know what to expect when playoff comes."

GM George McPhee, reflecting on his off-season so far, found time for one more Theodore-Huet comparison.

"We've kept our team intact and that was the objective," he told STC. "The only thing that changed was the goaltending but we think we've got a goaltender that's just as good or better than the one that left. And we didn't let him leave, he decided to leave. So the people that wanted to stay here are here -- which is good news for them, our team and our fans."

And with that, the Caps' new No. 60 is ready for the season to start.
