Caps Sign Theodore

The Caps threw a wrench in the goalie negotiations by signing Jose Theodore to a two-year deal (according to TSN and the team).

The optimist suggests that they're simply covering their bases in case they can't re-sign Cristobal Huet but hoping for a Huet-Theodore team. The realist says that GM George McPhee couldn't agree with Huet, so he is going with Theodore and keeping Brent Johnson (remember him?) as the back-up. How times change.

Theodore went 28-21-3 with a 2.44 GAA, a .910 save percentage and three shutouts as a member of the Colorado Avalanche last year. He also missed time with a back injury, but remained the clear starter through most of the season. In the playoffs (a victory over the Minnesota Wild and a four-game sweep at the hands of the Detroit Red Wings), Theodore went 4-6 with a 3.15 GAA and a .906 save percentage.

Theodore will be 32 in September. He has 47 games of NHL playoff experience (19-26, 2.75 GAA, .915 SV%).

Very interesting.
